MasterHand Mother & Child Massage Programme
The power of touch is a remarkable gift to impart on babies and one that will hopefully stay with them for years. Massage provides benefits for both the mother and the baby. It can increase awareness of how a baby communicates, as well as support a baby's overall mental development and wellbeing. Massage is scientifically proven to reduce stress and help stimulate the production of oxytocin, a hormone which promotes relaxation and shows the baby that physical touch and stimulation is pleasant and enjoyable. This is one reason why massage can help mums with postnatal depression.
The Focus of Education
The Maternal Touch Mother & Child Massage Programme, provides a warm and relaxing introduction to the basics of infant massage. The aim here is to strengthen the relationship between parent and child through skin-to-skin contact and relieve a baby's discomfort from various sources, including gastrointestinal distress such as gas and colic. The skin-to-skin contact helps to heighten sensory awareness and may encourage neurological development in the immune system. This will eventually help to regulate the baby's sleeping pattern.
